Fact or Fiction:
Downtown Rock Hill used to have a roof.
During the 1970s retail sales were plummeting in the downtown establishments and the City of Rock Hill attempted to remedy this by turning Main Street into a shopping mall to draw more crowds. A roof was built over two blocks of Main Street and the Town Center Mall was completed in 1977. The mall was successful for a time, but by the early 1990s with the building of the Rock Hill Galleria in 1991, the Town center Mall closed and the roof was taken down in 1994.
