Librarian Spotlight

This month’s librarian spotlight is on Antje Mays, Dacus Library’s Head of Monograph & AV Acquisitions.

Antje has worked at Dacus Library for 15 years. As Head of Monograph & AV Acquisitions, she is in charge of purchasing books, videos and ebooks that support all our academic programs and manages the budgets that go along with this. She also works with the library liaisons and subject selectors in strategically planning library materials for new, expanding, or changing academic programs.

Antje has a BA degree in Liberal Arts with a double minor in history and foreign languages from Excelsior College. She has a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from California Coast University. Currently she is nearing completion of a Doctor of Education (EdD) degree from California Coast University.  She just finished writing her doctoral dissertation which weaves together human capital theory from economics, business research on human resources, and education.

Some of Antje’s hobbies include: photography (see one of her recent photos below), painting, fashion/hat/jewelry design, classical music and Bossa Nova jazz. In addition, she would like to learn more about construction and electrical wiring. She also enjoys math, statistics, data analysis and visualization, languages and translation, and training and mentoring. Quite the renaissance woman!

As part of her library duties Antje has developed research guides for a wide variety of subjects including, but not limited to, dance, economics, finance, management, psychology, world languages and cultures, etc. You can take a look at the complete list here. Check out her most popular guide on Management for some great research resources. If you would like to meet with Antje for a research consultation, she is happy to set up an appointment. Dacus Library has many wonderful librarians on staff who all teach library instruction classes, work various hours on the reference desk, and do collection development work. Each librarian also has other specialized responsibilities within the library. To learn more, check back at the beginning of each month for a new librarian spotlight post.
