Michaela began working at Dacus Library three and a half years ago as the Circulation Department’s Library Technical Assistant, then became the Access Services Coordinator in the Reference Department. Now as the Outreach Librarian, Michaela is responsible for marketing the library to both current and prospective users, using traditional methods and emerging technologies to communicate to all patron types. If you’re reading this then you are already aware of the library’s blog. In addition to following the blog, you can follow Dacus Library via our Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram accounts. As one of the reference librarians, Michaela also spends time each week providing reference services to students at the Information Commons desk.

Michaela has a BS degree in Psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). She received her Masters in Library Science degree from the University of Kentucky, where she had a graduate assistantship in the reference department of the main library on campus (William T. Young Library).

Outside of work, Michaela enjoys spending time with her husband, family and friends. She loves to travel with her husband – this year they took a trip that circled northern and central California and part of Nevada. Driving through Big Sur on Highway 1, seeing the amazing ocean wildlife in Monterrey, biking around San Francisco, and hiking in Yosemite National Park and around Lake Tahoe were the highlights of a fabulous trip. Their next big adventure will be the birth of their first child – a boy – due in late February. They are thrilled to meet him soon!

As part of her library duties Michaela has developed research guides on Art History, Physical Education, Athletic Training, Sport Management and other topics. Her most popular research guide is on Athletic Training/Exercise Science, which can help get you started on research in databases, the library’s catalog, trustworthy websites or various reference resources. If you would like to meet with Michaela for a research consultation, she is happy to set up an appointment. Just send an email to

Dacus Library has many wonderful librarians on staff who all teach library instruction classes, work various hours on the reference desk, and do collection development work. Each librarian also has other specialized responsibilities within the library.
