Fall Break Hours at Dacus

Dacus Library hours will vary from the usual schedule during fall break. On Friday, October 13 we will close at 5:00 p.m. We will be closed on Saturday and Sunday, October 14 and 15. Monday, October 16, we will be open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and then we’ll open at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 17, and twenty-four hour access will resume.

Celebrate Your Right To Read!

The week of September 24th is Banned Books Week, where we celebrate our right to read. This year there has been a 17% increase in reported complaints and challenges about books in libraries. These attempts at censorship occur mostly in school and public libraries. While only 10% of the titles reported are normally removed from the institutions receiving the challenges, half of the most frequently challenged books this year were actually banned. The Banned Books Week Coalition (BBWC) is responding with “Our Right To Read,” a celebration of the diverse range of ideas found in books, and our First Amendment right as citizens to make our own intellectual choices.
