Ida Jane Dacus so disliked the Winthrop Training School (now Withers) building that she had her library designed to hide the school.
Fiction:
The building was named for Ida Jane Dacus because she was the first professionally trained librarian in the state, the official Winthrop Librarian from 1902 to 1945, and an 1898 alumna. It was constructed in 1969, four years after her death.
